Gold Coast – finest coast in Queensland
Gold Coast, famous throughout the world, boasts for its surfing beaches as well as long stretched coast line. With subtropical climate, it is a great place to surf almost all year around.
Over years of development, Gold Coast now can provide visitors with world class amenities from luxurious hotels, fancy restaurants to various recreational activities.
Besides see view, you can also the nearby square (eastward of the main section of Gold Coast) where you can find stores selling souvenirs of Gold Coast. There is also a berth place, where many yachts perches there.
Shopping centre (just along the coast) is also an interesting place to visit, many special stores sits there like wax figure store, feature photo shop etc. [more]
Typical Gold Coast Tourist Town
Surfers Paradise is typical town on the Gold Coast. Unfortunately, here the Austalians have managed to turn the beautiful coastline into a touristy place with skyskrapers and hotels, which could be found anywhere in the world. Surfers Paradise is only interesting if you have come to party. Not even for shopping I found it worthwhile- smaller towns such as Byron Bay or the well-known metropolis Brisbane or Sydney have a lot more to offer. I did not like it. [more]
Go Ride a Wave - learn how to surf in two hours
What better activity to do in Surfers Paradise than learning how to surf? This company is situated just a couple of metres to the right of the Surfers Paradise sign on the beach front at Shop 189 Centro. You won't miss it though!
They do two hour casual lessons (so you can do it just once), while giving you safety instructions, a board (the easiest ones to use) and wet suit included in the price. They also do lessons just for adults or just for kids. If you want to drop the kids off in the morning to learn how to surf under the watchful eye of the instructors then come back in the afternoon to watch their progress after having the day to yourself then you can do that too!
Oh, and they also do lessons in japanese if that's your native tongue. They're really great and friendly, you should definately give it a shot! If you pay in advance it's a lot cheaper, so go to their website to book online if you definately want to do it! [more]
The nightlife of Surfers Paradise
The clubs are nearly always packed, Surfers Paradise is the place to go if you want a night out on the Gold Coast. The thing is.. all of the clubs are more or less the same - Top 40 music playing meat markets. But I'll let you judge the places for yourself after I tell you a little about each of them - because each to their own! I'd say 80 percent of the Gold Coast youth love their clubs! They're all on the same street - Orchard Avenue - except for one or two that are on the ajoining street of Cavill Avenue.
So, if R&B and Hip Hop is your thing then go to the 'Bourbon Bar' which is one of the first clubs on the strip or 'The Drink'. If you like a mixture of mainstream dance and hip hop then go to either 'Rose and Crown', 'Cocktails and Dreams' or 'Shooters Saloon Bar'. 'Melbas' is the place where all of the university students go, it's the biggest nightclub with two floors, on the lower floor they play old school rock and the top floor mainstream dance and hip hop. #
For something a little less mainstream then try out 'Ruby Tramp', 'Berlin' or 'Elsewhere'. For something straight out of Sex and the City go to 'The Bedroom', that's right, they have beds set around the club for you to relax on after too much dancing! If you like alternative music the only place to go is to 'The Party' which I have written about seperately.
Most clubs have an entry fee of 5-10 dollars, before going in have a chat to their promotional staff who might take you in and get you a complimentary drink if you're nice to them.
Two things you have to know - smoking is now banned in niteclubs in Queensland and there is a thing called 'LOCK DOWN' - meaning if you're not inside the club at 3am then you can't get in, if you are you can stay until they close. So smokers - no smoking after 3am!
If you're planning a night out and didn't read anything you thought you might like feel free to ask me a question, I know all the Clubs in the city and will definately be able to help! [more]
