La Manga Strip
La Manga or La Manga Strip as it is also known as is an area in Murcia that I have been to. Whilst staying in the San Pedro del Pinatar area, I wanted to have a look at the famous La Manga. (It is famous for the La Manga golf resort where a lot of English football personalities stay). From San Pedro it is something like 50 kilometres and half an hour to drive all around the coast to get to La Manga, but it is a nice scenic drive. Once I arrived on the main road through La Manga, I continued to the very end, just to say that I had seen the tip of the Mar Menor. On the way back, we stopped off at a beach area on the Mediterranean side of the strip and enjoyed some sunbathing and a quick dip in the sea. On the opposite side of the strip, there are the warm shallow waters of the Mar Menor; both are good for family holidays. The area is full of hotels and apartment blocks with a mixture of permanent living and holiday apartments. It is very popular and busy in the summer months. La Manga
Famous throughout the world for it´s golf, but the area has some of the best beaches for children that you can imagine. Situated on the Mar Menor, the waters here are protected from the open sea by a spit of land. The water is also shallow and warm, and slopes very gently out to sea, making it perfect for little kids. In summer there are lifeguards and cafés, plus plenty of other tourists! But out of season, it is quiet. My kids love it here as the water is shallow, and the beaches are clean and sandy.
