A.O.C., located at 8022 W 3rd St. in Los Angeles, California, features a clean, spare aesthetic that still manages to appear as quite cozy and inviting. This wine bar and bistro has been rapidly gaining popularity for its succulent small plates (yep, small plate syndrome runs high here) and its excellent selection of wines that are offered by the flight, bottle and glass.
Start out with a choice of fifteen cheeses as an appetizer before moving along to ordering, say, pan-fried chicken with parmesan pudding, smoked trout in beef vinaigrette, and brioche with prosciutto, gruyère, and egg. I would highly recommend trying a pumpkin parfait with sassafras mousse and gingersnaps for a rich, delectible after-dinner treat. [more ]
There are some rather interesting, though nice, choices of charcuterie and cheeses on the menu, including some more of the lesser known (rare) cheeses and cured meats. Their stuffed dates are delicious and we had to order a second plate because they ran out so quickly... they're almost addicting, really.
The wine list here is incredible extensive and the waiters here have all been expertly trained to make fitting suggestions to go along with the meal.
This place is what I'd define as "casual chic," meaning that it's classy, but not snobby (thankfully). [more ]
