Rue Mouffetard runs from the rue Thouin in the 5th arrondissment, down to the rue Censier. Its cobblestones hark back to earlier times in Paris, before cars invaded the city. As you head downhill, in the direction of the église Saint-Médard, you will pass numerous small shops, selling everything from tourist items to chocolates to fine wines. At the bottom of the street, across from the church, is a fruit and vegetable market. The market atmosphere pervades the entire street as shoppers look for culinary finds, and tourist look for trinkets to bring home. Once you get hungry there are plenty of small restaurants and bistrots to visit, representing all types of French and ethnic food. [more]
