Grilled sand lizard as a specialty in Mui Ne
Every province in Vietnam has its own specialties, as well as in Mui Ne. Yep, grilled sand lizard is the specialty there. About 22km from Phan Thiet, at these beautiful beaches in Mui Ne, you can easily find a vendor selling sand lizards. Locals catch them in sand dunes and then break their spine to keep them unmoved but still alive. Buyers get the chance to choose the best ones that they like from the basket of the vendors and those poor reptiles will be grilled and served on place. Visiting Mui Ne
After traveling down from north Vietnam we were thankful to finally get a Sunday day (we were traveling in November) and wow, Mui Ne has a beach too! All we had seen until now was torrential rain. Mui-Ne is a tiny place with nothing much there. Its basically a small road with a handful of restaurants, resorts, budget accommodation and a couple of bars, so you can imagine how quiet it is. The beach was lovely and there was hardly anyone on it so it was really for just relaxing and soaking up some sun. However, evenings were a bit dull for my liking as there was a maximum of 3 bars, all quiet ones but luckily they had pool tables. There wasn't really anything to see or do but it was still a welcome break from the rain and the general bustle of the other towns we had visited in Vietnam. Tip: Make sure you have cash as the ATM often didn't work, nor did the one 20km away! So we had to get motorbike taxi's to an ATM that was 45 minutes away. I wouldn't recommend Mui-Ne unless its just a couple of days stop of as there really isn't anything to see. [more] |
