Folklore museum
This place is amazing. I stumbled across it quite by accident and was really glad I did. Entrance is free, and inside I found room after room of fascinating displays about tradition, culture and costume in Brazil. I think the exhibits change every few months, but when I visited there were elaborate carnival costumes from Rio, African-influenced religious figurines from Bahia, gaucho outfits from the south...there were also intricate displays featuring tiny figurines that, when a button was pressed, would enact an aspect of Brazilian life such as the process of making cachaca (the local firewater). There's no information in English, but the displays are so eyecatching and colourful that you'll want to spend a good hour or so in here nonetheless. Staff are really friendly and helpful too.
