Oldfields Lily House and Gardens
The Lily House is an old historical home that now belongs to the Indianapolis Museum of Art. It’s recently been designated a national landmark and is spread out over 26 acres. It is on the grounds of the museum, and is now open to the public for tours. It has been restored to the way it would’ve looked around the 1930’s, when the influential Lily family lived there. It’s very much like a house that you would see in a period movie, or even a murder mystery. It even has a secret spiral staircase! The lawns and garden are sprawling. It’s one of the most impressive estates I’ve ever visited and I think it’s safe to say that houses like this just don’t exist anymore. There is a museum-like portion at the entrance to the house, where you can learn about the background of the house. It’s a lot of fun, and if you visit at Christmastime, the place is decked out. It even has a giant upside-down Christmas tree hanging in the foyer! [more] |
