Eua Island, Tonga
It’s a general truth in the Pacific that if you get away from the “main” island then the pace of life slows down at least two-fold. Eua is a boat ride away from Tongatapu and well worth the effort if you fancy taking things slow. When I visited there was one guest house but you could also camp on the island’s southern-most beach which is reached by walking down the north-south dirt road that bisects the island and then following a footpath as the road bends east guided by the sound of waves. There is an impressive large sea-carved cavern at the southern end of the island also but it is in dense jungle and you will need to find someone local to guide you out to it. [more] |
