THE WILLIAMSON TUNNELS
When I visited the tunnels I thought there was nothing interesting about them, but, after the guide told me about there story, I began to be very fascinated about the mystery surrounding them. No one knows why they were built and what their purpose is but there are a lot of assumptions made by historians and archaeologists. The most viable presumption is that the tunnels were built to provide employment during the war with Napoleon; others say that Williamson saw potential in that land and wanted to reinforce it to build houses. What ever the truth may be, I was very impressed by the mystery and their meaning. [more] |
