The three course Amigo's, North Hobart
After a three day trek across boulders, hot coals, through a ninja forest in Tassie we were happy to be back in Hobart and now scouring around for something fresh to make our taste buds dance. On our way to mini-golf we spotted a special in the window of the orange Amigo's Mexican place on Elizabeth in North Hobart... $15 for 3 courses on Tuesday and it was Tuesday! There was much discussion and the final result was us waiting outside the restaurant for opening after 5pm. We were hungry. The restaurant was booked out for the evening and we were lucky to score a table we could use till 7.00 when the next hungry folk would come. We had under two hours for three courses which sounded reasonable so we accepted.
We sat in the window and admired the decorations surrounding us, perhaps marveling a little too much at the luxury of plates and forks. It's decorated heavily from the red side of the colour wheel but includes splashes of opposing colours creating a fun aesthetic.
Course one was entree, soups and salsas. We were already fairly full by the time our tacos and burritos came out. The beef burrito was super. The meat was so tender and flakey that I decided never to give up meat. There are lots of vegetarian options which I'm sure are super :-) By this stage we were feeling well rounded. The third and final course came just 10 minutes before 7.00pm. We scoffed what we could of the cheescake-shop-type cakes and virtually rolled down Elizabeth St to our hostel, an hours walk from Amigo's. By the time we arrived, I no longer felt as though someone had inflated an over-sized balloon inside my stomach but I wasn't comfortable. The tip here is to go on a Tuesday but book. Take your time. It's a super restaurant with tasty food! [more]
