Located very close to the Prague Castle, Golden Lane is definitely a street worth visiting. The houses date back to the 15th century and are the remaining small buildings that were not destroyed or rebuilt in time. Here was the former residence of all the blacksmith and castle workers. It is an interesting stroll because it makes you feel like a giant in a Lilliputian village. Be careful that when you enter the castle premises you have to ask for a special ticket because if you want to visit the lane you have to pay extra. I had my doubts at first but then it proved to be a trip worth the money. [more ]

The Golden Lane is a small neighbor with colorful, cute little houses. The history of the Golden Lane starts in 1597. The Emperor Rudolph wanted to build houses for his marksmen and their relatives. The years passed and the houses were occupied by alchemists and goldsmiths and that’s why it was named Golden Lane. Today the houses are used as shops for the tourists. Franz Kafka lived there for a while and wrote “The Castle”, also his sister lived there. Its also a meeting point for tourists, well I guess all Prague is. I love the colors of the houses you feel like you step into a fairy tail and the whole world just shrinks. Make sure to step in all the little stores, as they are unique [more ]

Golden Lane can be found at Prague castle (Prague 1).

It is another part of Prague castle that you should pay a visit to as it dates back to 15th century and offers you a glimpse how life used to be back then. There are 11 historical houses that have different displays, such as armory and textiles but you can stock up on souvenirs as well. The most appealing part, at least to me, is that you can shoot a bow from one of the top floors (very Thief: The Dark Project). This street was formerly known as Goldsmith's Lane or Zlatnicka Ulicka as numerous goldsmiths had their workshops here.

You will need a ticket for the whole Prague castle to be able to visit. The opening hours are Apr to Oct daily from 9:00am until 6:00pm, Nov to March from 9:00am until 4:00pm. [more ]
