Outback Ballooning And A Big Breakfast
The day started early for me. Just after 5am I realised the thumping I was hearing was not just a result of the hangover I was suffering, but somebody knocking on the door. Flinging on my shirt and trousers I quickly ran out to the waiting van. Seconds later I ran back into the hotel and rearranged my attire so that the trousers were on the bottom and the shirt was on the top. Then we were on our way to do some serious adventuring - I was going to go for a ride in a hot air balloon over Western Australia.
A thin band of yellow lit up the horizon as the sun started to rise. The balloon rose up like a... well, like a big balloon in the dusty clearing. The roar of the flame sounded prehistoric in the still air.
The flight over the plains and desert was something I will never forget. The colours of Australia lay below me as I gracefully slid through the sky above. I watched the shadow of the balloon as it distorted, sliding across plains, then rocks, then mountains.
All too soon we landed again, but the pilots provided me with a huge breakfast of chicken, quiche, fruit, cheese, and chocolate cake.
Then it was back to the hotel, where the only thing to remind me that it wasn't all a dream was the food I had stuffed in my pocket.
