Steps of Rome
The Steps of Rome is both a cafe and trattoria, one of the most Italian places in the exceedingly Italian area of North Beach. Going in here, you feel like you're an extra on the set of the movie Moonstruck, with a very warm Italian-American welcome, tonnes of vino, and amazing food (with healthy proportions). I had the pasta alle vongole (spaghetti with garlicky clams) and my fill of red wine. My boyfriend had the pancetta-wrapped pork medallions. We walked around afterwards before being drawn back to the cafe side of the Steps of Rome for an affogato. As an Italian-American, I felt incredibly at home here and am only glad that I don't live in the area because I would be in there every other night! [more] |
