National and University Library
National and University Library is located on Turjaška street 1. The building itself was erected between 1936 and 1941 and contains numerous valuable Medieval manuscripts as well as Renaissance prints in its collection. It stands in place of Ducal Palace, that was another building destroyed in 1895 earthquake. The exterior has an distinctive Italian feel, while the entrance door has a handle with 2 horses heads depicting Pegasus. Inside very impressive is the staircase with 32 pillars done in black marble. Above the side entrance you see the statue of Moses, while in front of the building there are monuments to famous Slavicists. [more] |
