Anne Hathaway’s Cottage

 stars
This sixteenth-century, thatched-roof cottage was the home of Anne Hathaway, Shakespeare's sweet-heart and wife. Its image is famous on chocolate boxes and tea towels and is arguably the most picturesque of the Birthplace Trust properties. Although referred to as a cottage, it is actually a substantial, twelve-roomed, Elizabethan farmhouse. Situated in the idyllic setting of Shottery, about a mile from Stratford, it’s just a short bus ride away and will get you out of the hustle and bustle of Stratford. Much of the furniture is original and the gardens are wonderfully landscaped. It’s very, very pretty. [more]
