First Out, Tottenham Court Road
I like going to new places, whether it’s a park, an area where I haven’t been before, a restaurant or a café. I saw this café after I had been to Borders at Charing Cross Road. The café is located at 52 St Giles High Street opposite Centrepoint only one minute walk from Tottenham Court Road tube station. I didn’t know it was a gay and lesbian café the first time I came here, but everyone is of course welcome.
First Out is completely vegetarian and also has various options for vegans. There are a lot of magazines in the café you can read for free while you are eating your food or drinking a coffee.
All of the main dishes cost under £5 and some of the options are jacked potatoes, Mexican nachos, veg burgers with beans and quiches with a green salad. There is also one counter with salads and cold pasta. On Sundays they serve a brunch including vegetarian sausages and mushrooms. I haven’t tried that but I've heard it's really tasty. I can recommend their quiches and the salads, the different tempting cakes.
The place is unpretentious with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The furnishing is nothing special, but it’s a nice place to spend a lunch. The walls are covered with big posters and paintings which are for sale. One floor below is a bar that is rather cozy, but quite smoky.
First Out is open Monday to Saturday 10am-11pm and Sundays 11am-10.30pm. [more ]
