The Light In Aix
Refreshed from out journey and well breakfasted, we headed out to explore Aix. The first thing I noticed about the city was the light. During our entire stay, the sky was azure blue and cloudless, and the light had a lustrous quality that you don’t see in the North of France. It was easy to see why native son painter Cézanne remained in this city. The colors of the buildings, the trees, and the flowers all seemed to glow in the sunlight that poured into the city. Aix is also noted for the beautiful fountains that fill its squares, and the light playing on the fountains, the water, and the pavement was really quite magical. [more] |
