Village fun

 stars
The Village is definitely the hostel to go to if you're looking for a party. I stayed in one of the larger dorms, and despite people coming at all hours it was still clean and safe. The bathrooms were plentiful and also clean. The pub downstairs has plenty of great competitions and drink deals, and is always pretty full. Ask at the front desk to get your name on the Ministry of Sound guestlist if you're looking for somewhere to head later in the evening. [more ]

Party Time at St. Christopher's Village

 stars
St. Christopher's Village is probably one of the better and cleaner hostels you'll find. After backpacking through Europe and staying at some god-awful places, I was hoping our stay in London would be a least a little comfortable, compared to the rest of the European hostels. I was definitely pleasantly surprised and happy to have checked in at this place. The rooms had about 4-6 beds/room; there were 4 of us, so we had our own room. The bathroom is communal and made me feel like I was in the college dorms all over again. However, it was relatively clean and I didn't have to turn a blind eye while showering. Downstairs, we found quite an influx of tourists and locals alike enjoying English beers at the bar-side in the pub. At any time of the day, it feels like there's a party going on. I really enjoyed the diversity of people and warm welcome offered by the staff and people staying there. It was easy to talk to people and make new friends that could guide you around a new city. There's also a common room on the ground floor that has a TV set and billiards. The tube is also around the corner, no more than a 10 minute walk, which is super convenient for people looking to scope out the city without going in debt paying cab fees. For the budget traveler, I would definitely recommend it. [more ]

St. Christopher’s Village, Southwark

St. Christopher’s Village is located at 161-165 Borough High Street on the south bank of Thames near London Bridge LU. This is definitely one of the better hostels I have stayed at. The location is good with easy access to the rest of central London. The place is big with almost 200 beds, it’s safe, secure and clean. I stayed in a ten-bed dorm room for one night. They also have double rooms and rooms for four people, but I figured since it gets cheaper with a ten-bed dorm room I might as well book that.

My stay was during the holiday one week before Christmas and the hostel was really busy . The atmosphere was friendly and the staff organized different events every night. I met lots of friendly travelers, especially Australians. This hostel has one of the best hostel chill-out rooms I have ever seen; big, spacious, clean, and modern. The lobby had two laptops with free Internet access.

I liked the traditional English pub and American bar/restaurant which serves as a breakfast room in the morning. In the evening, we went to the cosy roof top where they have a hot tub. On the same floor, they also have washing mashines, dryers and a little sauna. I can’t think of anything negative to say about St. Chrisopher’s Village. [more ]
