Undiscovered beauty in Urubici
When we arrived in Urubici it was freezing cold - despite it being summer, the altitude makes it decidedly nippy at night and in the early morning. Disembarking the bus we joined the locals in a warming coffee, before heading off in search of the hotel that was so cruelly out of our grasp the previous evening. The Urubici Park Hotel was a lovely, Bavarian-influenced place, and I managed to have a nice warm shower before heading for tourist information to find out what the town had to offer. It is not mentioned in any gringo tourist guides, but Urubici is ideal for nature lovers and adventure tourists - beautiful trails lead to picturesque waterfalls and there is plenty of scope for climbing, abseiling etc. It's possible to arrange for an English speaking guide to ferry you about between sights - from the waterfalls to ancient Indian carvings.
