The Butchers
Now this is not a pub, coffee house or anything like it, it is literally the butchers. When you go through the Micklegate you will see this wide, picturesque street and you can wonder around there are plenty of pubs and coffee houses where you can go and sit down and relax. However on this street and if I remember correctly not so far from Starbucks you will find a butcher shop. And if you see a line especially if you are visiting on the weekend do not be fool people are not waiting to buy meat for their lunch. Well not in the way you think anyway. At this particular butchers the line is so long because they make one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. The choice is not extensive, usually you can pick between 2 or 3 pieces of meat, I decided on roastbeef. They roast the meat and you can pick from one of the condiments like horseradish or mustard and then you are presented with one of the biggest and frankly tastiest sandwiches I have ever had. We looked quite unseemly eating that on the street, however by that time I already lost 5 kilos in less then a month so as you can imagine I was quite hungry. [more] |
