County Hall

County Hall is located at York Road (take tube to Westminster).

The building itself was not finished until 1933. although the plans to move the London County Council from its office in the Trafalgar square was laid out in 1922. The building was designed by Knott and was chosen among 150 applicants and designs. Knott died before the building was completed. It was home to the local government until 1986 when the Ken Livingstone's Council was abolished by the Thatcher government. Building sat empty for a number of years until it was sold to a Japanese company for 60 million pounds. Nowadays it is home to London Aquarium, Dali Universe and a number of restaurants. [more ]
