Duc Ba Cathedral
Duc Ba Church definitely has to be on your must-see list, when you arrive in Ho chi Minh City. Proposed to be one of France’s most ambitious project in Indochina at the time, Mr. Colombert laid the cornerstone for this famous cathedral on October 7th, 1877. In 1880, after three years of construction, Duc Ba Cathedral was opened to the public. All the bricks used for building this cathedral were shipped from Marseilles and the artisans from Lorin Company (France) were commissioned to create the stained glass windows for it. It for sure did cost a big fortune, I am sure this is all worth it anyway, when the Cathedral got the title ‘Basilique’ from the Vatican in 1962. Make sure you will visit this beautiful Cathedral, but don’t expect too much from it, since it is pretty much not as beautiful as many other cathedrals in Europe.
