Shakespeare’s Birthplace
His birthplace seemed the logical place to start my Shakespeare tour and to gain some insight into what life was like when the famous bard was a child. The Tudor house is quite small but walking around the rooms gives you a good idea of family life in the 16th century. The Parlour, the Hall, the Glovers workshop, the bedrooms, the kitchen and the buttery all have original furnishings combined with replica items. The gardens are very pretty and also worth a visit. The visit was slightly marred by some extremely loud visitors complaining that they’d been expecting something on a much grander scale. I‘ve no idea why, as to the best of my knowledge, Shakespeare wasn’t actually born famous. [more] |
