Birni'n Konni, Truck stop town, minus the pie
If you find yourself in the city of Birni'n Konni, or simply Konni as most locals refer to it, there's not too much to do. In fact, there's practically nothing to do, and you've probably stopped there for lunch on a trip from Niamey to Maradi or Zinder.
The market can offer a few plastic items sent up from Nigeria, as well as a good selection of used clothing items coming from western countries. I once found a mint-condition 1985 St. Louis Cardinals National League Pennant shirt there for $1. Might be worth a stop if "retro" is your thing.
