The National Theater
The National theater of Ivan pl. Zajec is another sight in Rijeka that you cannot really miss if you are going on a walk about. My gripe with these theaters in Rijeka, Split and Zagreb is that they all look identikit. It is probably down to the fact they were built towards the end of 19th century and were done by Viennese architects as that was the thing to do at the time. Be as it may, there was a theater here before 19th century and it was built by the infamous Adamic, but the local authorities decided that the new theater was needed. When it was finished and on the day of the premiere it was also the first time electricity sparked in Rijeka. They do have a good number of drama shows, but their significance is lost on anyone who does not understand Croatian. [more] |
