Devesa park in the evenings
In the evenings Devesa park transforms into a happening place. In the middle of the park you will find marquees or as the Catalan call them carpes. The marquees get set up in May and stay up until the end of September and they present a nice alternative then going to clubs. You can enjoy a concert, music, performances of all sorts, have a drink and mingle because all the marquees are completely open. Now I do have to say while I did enjoy walking around Devesa gardens, I kind of preferred our bar crawl on La Rambla and Placa de Independencia. It felt more leisurely somehow plus I really enjoyed the feel of Girona and its topsy turvy streets when you never know what is behind the corner. But if you are staying at Girona for a few days check out both because you might like it more. [more] |

Devesa Park
Devesa park is located just a few streets away from Carrer Nou. The park is located behind a heavy iron gate and it covers about 40 hectares. It is an urban park, a place for the people of the city to run away to when they fancy a stroll. The walk around will take you about an hour or so depending on how fast you want to go, but since there is plenty of shade I was not in much of a rush. There are a number of parks that are named differently – you sit next to the river and rest your feet, there is a small football pitch and sports facilities. In the Devesa gardens there are a number of plants – some are regional and some are more exotic, the gardens are French since the park was devised in 19th.
