Meir Garden: A Dog's Haven

 stars
One of the perks of living or visiting a major urban city are its parks. Tel Aviv is no exception. Along a the major tourist route of King George St., is Meir Park.

When attempting to find my way to the Carmel Market on Shaynkin St., I noticed Meir Park with its massive, aged trees and large green spaces. At first I thought there was also a large children's playground at the entrance. Further investigation revealed the "children's playground" is actually a fenced in area of the park not for children, but for dogs!

The concept of having a dog playground seemed wonderful until my nose spent a few minutes next to it. Unless you have a dog of your own, the smell can be rather overpowering as the playground also serves as a canine toilet.

Fortunately, the dog park only accounts for a very small section of the park. If you continue inside, you'll find a wonderful silence . It's a welcome change from the bustle of the city streets. The park also includes ping-pong tables. So, bring your paddles! [more]
