Ramat Gan Safari (Zoo)
A five minute drive outside of Tel Aviv will bring you to the Ramat Gan Safari. Not only is it a traditional zoo, but it also features a "live" zoo area where visitors can drive their cars past African animals such as zebras, hippopotamus, and gazelles. This may be the most exciting zoo I've visited to date. Having never experience a real African safari, the Ramat Gan Safari was thrilling! The larger animals were accustomed to the vehicles driving past them and had no fear checking if visitors had food for them. More often than once, I found a zebra's nose poking into the passengers side window. Large birds (perhaps ostriches?) also had little fear of approaching vehicles and giving a curious peck at hands that may hold food for them. After driving through the large animal enclosures, we were instructed to park our car and enter the area of the zoo which held caged animals. Here you'll find standard zoo creatures such as monkeys, bears, lions, and birds. It's a relatively large zoo so be sure to bring comfortable shoes and plenty of water to drink. As are most tourist locations, food and drink are sold at inflated prices and it would be wise to bring your own. Total duration was approximately 4 hours. Ticket price: 45 shekel ($13 USD) [more] |
