Brit Spaugh Zoo
The Brit Spaugh Zoo opened in the 1950's and it does not seem to have been well updated too much since then. They have a number of larger animals, including a grizzly bear, tiger and a lion. The grizzly bear seems to be in a cage that is far too small and out of date. When we were there, it was just pacing back and forth and it seemed really sad. For some of the smaller creatures, the size of the cages didn't seem too bad, but for the larger ones, they just seemed depressed. There is a newer section that (I think) is still being expanded and developed, which is a good thing. It seems like a conceptually nice thing to do while in Great Bend, and in some ways it is, but I felt a bit sad after visiting. Entrance to the zoo is free and it's open from 9:00am to 4:30pm every day. [more] |
