Lindt Chocolate Factory

Aachen is a lovely town, situated in the western part of Germany, pretty close to the German-Belgian-Dutch boarder. It is famous for the CHIO (equestrian championship), Printen (a kind of ginger bread with different flavours), the RWTH (Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule, most times translated as Aachen University of Technology), its cathedral and for sure Charlemagne. Every year thousands of tourists come, not only to see the Cathedral, which was built in the time of Charlemagne, also to have a look at the Weihnachtsmarkt (Christmas Market), which is situated next to the town hall. Many people love drinking a Glühwein (spicey wine) and eating Printen. But coming to Aachen you should definitely visit the Lindt Chocolate Factory, which is situated pretty close to the Westbahnhof (which is – beside the Hauptbahnhof, Schanz and Rothe Erde) one of Aachen’s train stations. I usually manage getting to the Swiss chocolate factory by a 5-10 minute walk, but it is also possible, but quite expensive, to catch a bus since there is a bus stop right in front of the factory. However, the factory opens every work day in the early morning and sometimes it opens also on Sundays (most times around Christmas because there are lots of tourists from the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Great Britain…). The factory itself is divided in a working section which can be visited when arranged before and the factory outlet, which is open for everyone. The store is as huge as a normal supermarket, but they just sell Lindt chocolate! Last week I went to the store and they are already prepared for Christmas. Some special chocolate (cinnamon and grapes and other spicy stuff), Santa Clause made of chocolate and Adventskalender (a german tradtion) etc. and everything is quite cheap, compared to the price you pay in a normal supermarket. I really love their special offers, last time I got 7 different bars of chocolate for just 2,50 Euro, but it is also possible to buy single bars, such as Champagne (I paid 1,60 Euro for that), Lemon Black Pepper (around 1,50 Euro) or plain milk (around 1 Euro). After paying at the cash there is another surprise. You get some goodies, depending on the season. Last week I got some Christmas Chocolate, and during my last visit some Whiskey Pralines. [more ]

Shopping at Lindt chocolate factory

Maybe it sounds really weird to you, but truly, you can shop your favorite chocolate at Lindt chocolate factory. It is situated on Suesterfeldstrasse 130, Aachen Central 52072.
Before you go there, you might want to know the opening hours, because I am sure that you don’t want to run there and it is close. So check it here:

Mon -Fri : 09.00 - 16.30

Middle of October - Christmas:
Mon-Fri : 09.00 - 19.00
Sat : 09.00 - 17.00

Ash Wednesday - Easter:
Mon -Fri 09.00 - 19.00
Sat : 09.00 – 14.00

During November – December and March are always overfilled by the visitors. And Lindt also provides more chocolate choices at that time. Not only chocolate but also pralines in different kinds of flavors and sizes. You should pay more attention to the expiration date, because most of the chocolate and pralines that they sell there are very close to expired. Usually it’s gonna expire in a month. So, if you plan to keep your chocolate longer, then check the expiration date. My favorites from Lindt are 70%, 85%, 99% black chocolate, and some with new flavors, as long as not with chili then I am up for it.

If you pay 2.80 Euro for a bar of chocolate in a shop and you get it only for 0.99 Euro at the factory. Then, why not? [more ]
