Ancient Rock Art just off the beeten path
If you are in Kingman, AZ for any reason, there is a bit of history that has lasted thousands of years- and will (hopefully) last a thousand more… but one can’t be sure. Pretty much anyone that has lived there for more than a decade (myself included) knows about the Native American rock art just east of the intersection of Northern Ave and Stockton Hill Rd. It looks like nothing more than a dirt driveway, but if you park over here and start walking, you’ll eventually come across a hill face covered with dark boulders and rocks. Sure enough, if you start to look closely you’ll see a few designs and shapes. My favorite is what looks like a pregnant woman. In elementary school I went there on a field trip, and went back again in 2007. The area is a little dirty, with a few hobos and high school kids getting beer from the gas station across the street and sitting there in the dark, drinking. If you go, be sure to look out for snakes. [more] |
