Concerts in Lapa
Lapa is the undisputed hotspot of Rio's nightlife scene, and Circo Voador is right at the heart of the action, next to the iconic Arcos da Lapa (Lapa Arches). It's a vast space hosting concerts and large-scale club nights, from baile funk noise-athons to concerts from stars of the MPB (Musica Popular Brasiliera) scene. Listings for the month ahead are displayed on the side of the buidling - events here usually take place at weekends only. Although occasionally it's possible to just turn up and buy a ticket on the door here, more often than not you'll need to buy your tickets in advance - you should expect to pay around R$30-40 for a concert, and around half that for a club night. If you get a chance to see Monobloco here, go for it. This multi-membered musical troupe play lively, crowd-pleasing versions of all the Brazilian classics and the atmosphere is always terrific.
