Solidarity close-up

The Roads to Freedom Exhibition is on the same square as the Monument to the Fallen Shipyard Workers and it documents Polish resistance to the communist regime, especially the Solidarity movement around Lech Walesa on the Gdansk shipyard. The exhibition is very modern, lots of videos, soundbites, newspaper clippings, and interactive computer stuff. You don't have to have a degree in Eastern European history to follow the exhibition, and you don't have to speak Polish either as everything is translated into English. It's definitely worth your time (about 1.5 hrs), and it's not your average dusty history museum either. Watch out for the subway-like entrace, as the exhibition rooms are underground. [more ]
