Locals and travelers can appreciate a good deal. Eating out can be especially expensive, but fortunately there are places where one can get a decent meal at an affordable price. If you’re in Michigan, particularly in the western or eastern part of the state, look for the “fast food” restaurant named “noodles & company.” What’s cool about noodles & company is their selection of relatively healthy and pretty tasty noodle dishes – American (e.g., Wisconsin Mac & Cheese, Buttered Noodles, House Marinara), Asian (e.g., Japanese Pan Noodles, Pad Thai, Indonesian Peanut Saute), and Mediterranean (e.g., Penne Rosa, Pasta Fresca, and Whole Grain Tuscan Linguine). All are vegetarian-friendly, but customers can pay a little extra to add chicken, beef, shrimp, or tofu. Soups, salads, and sweets are also on offer. My two favorite dishes are the Whole Grain Tuscan Linguine with a Ciabatta Roll and Pad Thai. A regular no-frills portion costs US$5.25 plus tax. Service is typically fast and staff are nice. Cash and credit cards are accepted. noodles & company is a popular hangout for students at the University of Michigan and folks visiting friends and loved ones in the area.
