Kingston Restaurant Week 2008
November is an excellent time to visit the capital city of Kingston in Jamaica. If you love experiencing new, exciting and exotic cuisines, there is no better place to do that than during Kingston Restaurant Week. This year it will be held November 8-15. For the past three or four years, Restaurateurs in Kingston have gotten together to plan the most exciting week of dining out in the city and also the cheapest. During Restaurant Week, Restaurants are classified into five categories, Epicurean, Delectable, Savory, High Rollers and Tasty. The categories also represent a different price group, Epicurean being the most expensive and Tasty being the least expensive. For example the price for the restaurants classified in the Tasty Group is JA$1350 approximately US$18 while the Epicurean Category is JA$3500 or US$48. For one flat rate (excluding taxes and service charges depending on the restaurant) you are able to go to any of the participating restaurants during the week and you are guaranteed an appetizer or cocktail, a main course and dessert. In some cases you end up saving as much as 50% on meals than if you were to dine regularly. If nothing on the Restaurant Week Menu interests you, which is highly unlikely, you still have an option of choosing their regular menu, but the regular prices would naturally be applicable. If you are a foodie and you’re unable to make it this year pencil it in your calendar for next year and you can start searching for the dates around October each year. It’s a great time to get a feel of what the dining culture is in Jamaica. Although the crowd is mixed, you are sure to see Kingston’s finest and most elite, you may even spot a few super models and celebrities. One catch to this exciting week is to make reservations in advance because the restaurants tend to be booked almost every night. I’ve already made reservations for a new restaurant, so I’ll fill you in on the place. My goal is to try a new restaurant each year.
