Pushkar Cheap Eats
If you’re in Pushkar and on a budget, but your belly says otherwise, an awesome place to go and fill up is at Om Shiva Buffet. I had seen the sign when I was walking the town one day but, in all honesty, I didn’t have high hopes for a 50 rupee all-you-can eat buffet, it just sounded a little dodgy. However, I got speaking to some other fellow tourists who couldn’t stop raving about it so I decided to go and check it out. Now I generally I like anything that’s cheap but this was just amazing! And I stand by my word when I say, other than local eating places; I have never found another restaurant aimed at tourists that beat this on value for money.
We went there for dinner the first time and were presented with Indian, as well as, Western type foods. You can thank the influx of Israeli tourists in Pushkar for the serve up of delicious falafel, hummus and pita bread. They also serve chips, mashed potato, pasta and a whole selection of North Indian food like rice, chapatti, dhal, subji (vegetables), curd and pickles. And all of this for 50 rupees? Yes, yes it is true! They also serve breakfast and lunch and while I haven’t been there for lunch the breakfast was great with a selection of fruits, muesli, curd, toast and more.
Upstairs seating on the balcony means there is a lot of space too so it’s a great place to come if there is a big group of you. The selection of foods on offer also means it’s great if some in the group want Western and some want Indian, everyone can be satisfied! They also have a full selection of soft drinks, lassies, chai and coffee and the staff there are super-friendly.
Om Shiva Buffet is towards the end of Sadar Bazaar Road which is the main tourist drag that runs adjacent to Pushkar Lake. [more]
