The Cultural Center of the Philippines
The heart of the Filipino arts and culture lies and is being preserved in the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP.) Built in 1966, this center showcases the local talent in various arts—from visual, film, and literature to music and dance. Actually, Imelda Marcos claims that she’s the mother of the CCP. Well, nobody disagrees with her since the structure was built during the reign of the Marcos family. Taking a tour in the CCP is very meaningful and productive. Locals, including me, usually go to CCP to watch ballet concerts, orchestras, and theater plays. Brilliant literature and visual artists also gather in CCP to showcase their talents. Needless to say, this place is a favorite location for poetry reading, book launching, painting exhibits, or several art contests. The interior beauty of CCP is a bit intimidating. Visitors can’t enter without proper attire—no slippers, sleeveless, and shorts, please. Admission is free unless there’s a special program going on. Nevertheless, anyone can visit the CCP anytime of the day. After touring the interior during the day, people usually stay outside around the fountain and just feel the Manila atmosphere. [more] |
