The Bedford Pub Balham - everything you could want under one roof!
This pub is a Balham institution and well worth a visit if you’re in South London. It’s housed in a lovely old red brick building and has a cozy, old-man’s pub feel. The difference is it has cleverly marketed itself to the local 30 somethings who like to party and want a local with lots going on. It’s a massive place with three floors, five bars and several function rooms. It makes full use of its space upstairs by holding a packed line-up of activities including dance classes, live music, a Wednesday Quiz night and the hugely popular club nights every Friday and Saturday. Be warned, as this is one of the few places in the area to stay open late expect to queue to get in! I particularly like their comedy club on Fridays and Saturdays, but once again it’s massively popular so it can be hard to get a ticket. If you’re in Balham, you need to have at least one drink in The Bedford! If it’s a bit too hectic in there, head down the High Street to The Duke of Devonshire for a more chilled place which still stays open late. [more ]
