Dudley Canal Trust
Dudley Canal Trust is a tourist attraction, in the town of Dudley, West Midlands. The attraction is the opportunity to ride in a ‘barge’ narrow boat, through the Dudley tunnel and visit the famous limestone mines and the Singing Cavern Mine. The trust is a charity, they own a number of narrow boats, and can take up to 50 passengers on a trip under the hills of Dudley, and out into the open air of the Limestone mines, and into the caverns, where the history of the area is explained by the guide. At seasonal times you can ride a barge to see Santa or go on a themed evening for a ghost tour. I have been with family to a normal day out, having a ride in a barge, through the dark tunnel and seeing the mines and caverns. This is a very interesting and different day out and you learn a lot of history how people used to work in the ‘old’ days. A must to visit if touring in this area. The entrance to the tunnels and the attraction is on the A4123 Birmingham New Road, at its junction with Tipton Road, Dudley. There is a separate entrance to the Canal Trust, or you can enter as part of a trip to The Black Country Living Museum, which I have written about separately. [more] |
