Dinner for Three?
One of the perils, in fact the only peril I can think of about enjoying an al fresco lunch in the beautiful plazas of Valletta, Malta's capital, is that you end up having to share your meal with a couple of pesky pigeons. These creatures are fearless and are certainly not afraid of humans. I was sitting in a plaza just near the island’s parliament building when two decided they liked the look of my lamb chops, salad and chips and without waiting to be invited joined in the feast. To be fair to them, they did at least wait until I had finished most of my meal. It seems they were only interested in scraps. This scene was repeated on quite a few tables near me, and I think it’s becoming a bit of a tourist attraction in its own right. They’re probably the most well-fed pigeons on the planet. [more] |
