Punta Arenas - Magallanes Regional Museum
Located in the former Palace of the Braun-Menéndez family, the Regional Museum of Magallanes, in Punta Arenas, shows the history and economic evolution of this area of Chile. The palace has a neo-classic style and both its interiors and exteriors were built with large European influence.
The richness of its interiors can be visited and allows for a glimpse of the daily life of the most influential families of those times. The fortunes made in the XIX century were much based in ranching and maritime enterprises. With the aperture of Panama Channel, Punta Arenas lost its maritime importance.
The museum is located just in one of the corners of Punta Arenas’ main square. Nowadays also hosts exhibitions related to the native Patagonian Indians. [more ]
