The Edison, Los Angeles

5.0 stars

Landmark restaurant in LA's old power plant

The huge space of this restaurant/lounge once housed downtown LA's first private power plant. Its 20s industrial architecture has been married with art-deco chic into one of LA’s most unique nightly destinations. The Edison is open Wed-Fri 5 pm – 2 am. If you don’t want to wait around the block, get there early to save your spot in one of the dining rooms or the lounge. There’s also a strict dress code, which adds to the experience of being in a 20s speakeasy. The Edison's cocktail list (or libations as they call it) offers classics such as James Bond’s Vesper Martini, the Hemingway, a potent concoction of absinthe (long-banned from the US) and champagne; for food they serve a mix of old-fashioned favorites and refined gourmet dishes. The truffle mac & cheese, warm olives and crispy flatbread are great to share; if you’re hungry, try the steak and eggs, and finish off with oven-fresh chocolate chip cookies. A night at the Edison is not a cheap endeavor, but you feel part of a living, breathing piece of Los Angeles history. [more ]
