Intimate music venue with cocktails and food

 stars
Big acts play this small venue that has been taken over by new management - the student grub chain Trof. As well as serving top nosh on the ground floor in eclectic surroundings - check out the cool wallpaper - the venue also becomes a nightclub and stage for signed, live acts. The first floor is an intimate place to see bands, who perform on a red curtained plinth next to a bar in front of a wall of speakers, just for decoration. The basement provides better toilets than this floor, which are a bit cramped, and houses the venue's third bar that serves a stonkingly good cocktail menu. These mixologists can even put together alcohol and ice-cream! The Deaf Institute is at the heart of the city's universities on Oxford Road, attracting a mix of students, professionals and undergrads looking for somewhere to take their families on visits. Smokers will be able to hang out on the heated terraces with benches on the ground and first floors. [more]
