Witnessing Wildebeest Spectacle at Mbalageti Serengeti Camp

We made many family friends during my dad’s posting to our country’s diplomatic mission in Tanzania, and we have managed to maintain close ties with the family friends. In Tanzania, touring the famous Serengeti national Park is almost a ritual! It is under this pretext that one of our family friends invited us to join them in their annual trips to the Serengeti national park where they get to witness the wildebeest migrations across the Mara River to Kenya’s Maasai Mara National Park. We were accommodated at the Mbalageti Serengeti Camp in a purely bush camping style adventure, with canvas tents providing shelter over our heads. I cannot complain so much about the shelter because the inside of the en suite canvas tents were full of luxurious niceties that included comfy king size beds, modern furniture and decorative murals. The food was good, although not so fresh given the remote location of the lodge. I also enjoyed the wildebeest migration spectacle where thousands of wildebeests crossed over to the Maasai Mara amid attacks from crocodiles and hippos. I would advise anyone planning a trip to Serengeti to take a flight because we guys used the roads, and believe me, it wasn’t a pleasant experience. The roads are just terrible! [more ]
