A wonderful discovery in Galician heartland
I was really impressed with this beautiful building and its architecture wonders. This monastery opens up from what it appeared a less looked-after patios to beautiful and impressive rooms. My favorite room was the Palm Tree Room called that way for it beautiful twirling columns in the center of the room. Despite the beauty and ornaments of this place, once thing is, it was freezing in there and it was a pity to see that some of the frescoes have been deteriorated due to the high humidity here. But one things remaining intact is an unique piece, a virgin Mary breastfeeding baby Jesus, quite an unusual piece but also fantastic, although I could only reach to see it with the zoom of my camera as it is placed high up. All visits are guided by one of the monks of the monastery and at selected times so it is worthy to be there early. Our guide allowed us to take some photos but he also said another visitors may find restrictions as it depends on the guide. It costs 4€ to enter in the Monastery and bring a warm jacket as it can get really cold in some areas. [more] |
