Ermita de Santa Catalina
Ermita de Santa Catalina is a small church, built into the hillside in the old Santa Catalina area of Pinoso (in the province of Alicante, Spain).
It is essentially a cave church.
This is another pretty little church that I have visited, and is unusual because it is built into the hillside. It was constructed only in 1989 in honour of Saint Catherine of Alexandria, who came from the first half of the 4th century.
Apparently between 1926 and 1974, the area where the church is located was a drinking water reservoir for the community at that time.
There is a nice little park area in front of the church with a small children’s play area and a lot of trees for shade.
An interesting little church to visit. [more ]
