Egyptian Theater, Hollywood

5.0 stars

The Egyptian Theater--a heaven for movie buffs

Built in 1922 by famous architect Sid Grauman (who also built the Mann's Chinese Theater), the décor of the Egyptian is inspired by the 1920’s King Tut craze. The Egyptian hosted Hollywood’s first movie premiere “Robin Hood” with Douglas Fairbanks. If you’re a fan of classic movies, this theater's monthly program (in collaboration with the American Cinemateque) will elevate you into movie heaven. It features restored classic prints, such as Lawrence of Arabia and Gone With the Wind on the big screen. In addition, the program includes notable films of world cinema and experimental filmmaking. Another interesting recurring show worth seeing at the Egyptian is Forever Hollywood, a 55-minute film with footage from the earliest days of the industry. Call the theater for more info. [more ]
