Bodrum, Turkey
Bodrum is one of the major cities on the Aegean coast. There is an international airport about 30minutes away and numerous holiday resorts on the Bodrum peninsula. I preferred to stay outside Turgutreis and visit Bodrum, although there are hotels in Bodrum.
The city has low level white-washed houses which is unusual for Turkish cities. There is a large harbour with plenty of half day and full day boat trips to nearby islands and bays - ideal for those wanting to snorkel.
Definitely visit the 15 century castle of St Peter next to the harbour. It's about 5 Euros to enter. inside is a museum of Underwater Archaeology and artefacts from ancient Greek and Byzantine ships which sunk off the Turkish coast. A couple of the attractions inside require an extra entrance fee. The long route takes about 2 hours to do. there are toilets, a cafe and a shop inside and you get a great view of the harbour.
Bodrum is the site of one of the ancient wonders of the world - King Mausolus' Mausoleum from the 4th century BC. It used to stand 50m high but is now in ruins (although there is talk of trying to rebuild a replica of it). Entry is 8 euros. Nearby is the better preserved ancient theatre which is still in use - there is a charge to enter.

Party hard in Bodrum
Bodrum is a party town in Turkey, perfect for a week of sea, sun and the other s! It is not a classy place, but if drinking, dancing and having a good time is your thing then you will enjoy it. The good thing is it is cheaper than similar places in Spain and I thought it was fun as long as you basically want to lie on the beach in the day and party at night. The Turkish people are really friendly and the beaches are actually pretty good (although many people sleep in the day and party at night so don’t see much of the beaches or scenery). Turkey is full of fantastic history and ruins, but most people visiting Bodrum don’t worry about that!
