Watch this Georgian space!
I dare anyone to prove to me that the pre-dinner, dinner and post-dinner experience provided at No. 1 Pery Square, Limerick can be beaten. And if reviews are anything to go by, it is only to be beaten by an actual stay in one of the hotels period-style rooms. My friends and I, met for a drink before dinner, cocktails shaken by our award-winning French barman. From the outset, something about each room I stepped into took my breath away - from the softest of carpet on the stairs, reclaimed floorboards, exquisite mirrors and chandeliers to the contemporary, bright and completely appropriate drapes and furnishings. The building just spoke to me of no expense being spared in order to bring it's true beauty to the fore in the most awe-inspiring yet sympathic way. There was not a view from any window that was not glorious - a tree-lined park, a majestic church, the exposed redbrick of Georgian houses. Yet the crazy thing is how affordable it's dinner, bar and spa menus are! While the restaurant was chic, it's atmosphere was welcoming and chatty. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The menu was interesting (pig's trotters i.e. feet) yet it was good to see some old reliables too (rib-eye steak), to cater for every taste. The desserts were amongst the best we'd tasted and, again here, it was obvious that no short-cuts were taken. And when I was informed that I can have afternoon tea in the divine drawing room from as little as €15, I have to confess that the Jane Austen in me almost had to reach for the smelling salts. [more ]
