Beers armed with a view
One of the best kept secret drinking holes on the Northern Beaches, in Sydney, is with out a doubt the Newport Arms. As most visitors won’t brave the 40 minute bus ride or drive up the peninsular to Pittwater, the massive outdoor beer garden is a favourite for the locals looking to relax, and escape the hustle and bustle of Sydney and Manly, with a quiet beer in the sun. If heading there on either New Year’s Eve or Christmas Eve, be sure to allow time for the huge line-up, as the Beaches’ youth and older generations unite for massive festivities and fireworks. The food is palatable, with one’s mind generally distracted by the peaceful and friendly ambience. The Arms is a great spot to visit on the day of any major sporting event. With a great outdoor screen, a decent crowd is sure to come and watch the action; party ferociously if the Aussies get a win; and commiserate gallantly if the green and gold go down. [more] |
